Into the Wild

Ever notice how sometimes things seem to good to be true? Yeah. We noticed that too... Right about the time we opened the door to our "Beautiful jungle getaway" and were overcome with the stench of mold, decay and well... you have an imagination, right? So how is our island experience so far, you may wonder. Well I will say this... We wanted an adventure and we sure got one. More than one actually, but its been the experience of a lifetime. It will never cease to amaze me how much the human spirit can withstand and accomplish even in the most dire of circumstances. Now for Evan, and myself, we are hardly in dire circumstances, but I'll give a brief rundown of our Maui-existence thus far: After seeing the dreadful condition of our would-be abode, we opted for a charming and (of course) overpriced hotel in Hana, the town we love so much. We spent the evening with friends, enjoying the serenity of familiar faces and acoustic guitars. The next morning brought with it a smack of reality, and we headed back towards civilization to wait out the metaphorical storm. As luck would have it we found a small apartment for rent the same day, and after buying our trusty aerobed at Costco and setting it up, we crashed out about 9pm. Happy New Year's to us, eh? New Year's Day was spent frolicking in the ocean with our dear friends Rory and Lisa, and it was a much needed revival after the two grueling days before. And today we made ourselves official Hawaii residents. We have a Maui car, Maui driver's licenses and a Maui address- so folks, it's official... A & E are on the island!
